Assessments
The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) is an optional test for juniors insterested in entering the National Merit Schoalrship Competition. It is given in school usually the 2nd Wednesday in October. There is a $13.00 fee for materials and scoring. It is very challenging to become a National Merict Scholar. Only about 2% of students taking the PSAT go on to become semi-finalists.
Other reasons students may choose to take the PSAT are to gain experience in taking a college admissions type test and to see how their scores compare to many of the top students in the nation. The test has three parts
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery.
