Our Story
Sargent Central Public School District #41-6 is a consolidated (est. 1960) school district from six surrounding communities of Brampton, Cogswell, Forman, Rutland, Havana, and Cayuga. Prior to Sargent Central Public School District, the town of Forman possessed Forman High School with redistricting starting in 1958 when plans for a consolidated school district were approved. In 1959, Cayuga High School, with the combined schools of Cogswell and Brampton joined Forman High School on a trial basis called Sargent Central.
In the summer of 1960, a landslide vote officially confirmed Sargent Central High School. Due to overcrowding at Forman High School, plans for a new building were immediately started. During the 1962-1963 school year, students moved into the new Sargent Central Public School building. In 1963, Rutland High School students became a part of the consolidation, followed lastly by Havana High School students in 1969. Rutland and Havana officially closed their doors in 1984. From enrollment growth and consolidation, modular units were constructed on-site and utilized for 26 years.
In 2001, an Activity Center (Seating Capacity = 766) was constructed on-site but stood as a separate facility not attached to the main facility. Due to the age of the modular units and the deterioration of the structures, the community pursued a bond referendum. A special election was held on April 14th, 2009 for a $3.8 million dollar general obligation bond for constructing new elementary facilities along with remodeling the secondary facility, and attaching the facility to the Activity Center. This bond passed with 63 percent with construction work completed before the 2010-2011 school year. The elementary has a separate entrance with designated classrooms at each grade level, along with special education and Title I (elementary schoolwide) services. There is a separate room assigned for speech therapy services.
